Introduced for the 1979 model year, the 635CSi was a variant of the E24 BMW 6 Series. Initially, the 635CSi was powered by BMW's 215hp M90 inline six engine, but from the 1983 model year, BMW's M30 engine was used with 282hp. Production of the BMW 635CSi ended in 1989.
In 1985 - Jim Richards won the Australian Touring Car Championship in the properly iconic JPS livery.
Prices have steadily been climbing with "shark nose" presence, style and relatively low volumes of late-model clean original examples that were not butchered when prices dropped to lows maybe 10 years ago and ended in hands of owners who couldnt afford to maintain them.
Classic.com, a predominantly US site where values are of course much cheaper shows a fair price now of $23,000 USD
Priced new in Australia @ a stellar $109,750 - we suspect it isn't going to be long before this will be the base price again for well maintained clean original AU delivered examples
This Example
This is clean honest Australian delivered original example with extensive service records to provide a great starter car - it is better than a project car as it does run but most especially as it is virtually all in place - just needs a serious recommissioning service and some love to the body and interior.
With prices for sorted cars now approaching $100,000, this represents a rare opportunity to own a genuine 635CSi at a reasonable price.
But critically it is original, one bump on nose, one small rust patch below rear list but otherwise clean, original that for instance absolutely doesn't need paint, just a proper paint correction.
Otherwise:
- The highly sought-after sports seats are amazing but need full clean, passenger one works perfectly, drivers side 2 functions don’t work but others do.
- Originality - it's all there and with exception of stereo and change of the original metric wheels it is all original. Original Becker available. The spare has the original metric wheel and TRX Michelin !
- Service records - stamped service books up to 2012 from when it has largely been in storage - owners manual and other books with the car
- Wouldn’t take much to get to easy daily driver status - has been on historic plates up until recently. Full engine, fluids service required, electricals all seem ok except lights (may only be fuse), needs tyres and battery and transmission neutralises after a while and needs service.
